The New Dollar....Not Quite Minus "In God We Trust"
67Picking coins out of my wallet yesterday for a puchase.. I came across a strange one which I thought at first was a game token or something similar.
It was the new dollar coin.
It wasn't till later I really looked at it and saw it is minus the inscription "In God We Trust".
Apparently this dollar has been out there for a while... it is the first one I have seen.
Is it the first of many new coins?
Our founding fathers built this nation with their trust in God to guide them.
God guided them well and He has blessed this country unbelievably.
There is an element in our nation that hates that fact ... or is just blinded to the truth by their complete lack of trust in God or their complete lack of belief in Him ... and that element is doing and will do all it can to remove any reference to God anywhere and everywhere here. That is nothing new.
The removal of "In God We Trust" to me is a blatant boast...... declaring..... "There! We said we would do it and we have."
God needs no defending. The truth needs no defending. It stands for itself.
Certainly removing a word or three cannot remove the truth.
I for one will never use the new dollar.... a matter of principle.
Post Script:
After writing this .. I inspected the coin further and found the inscription "In God We Trust" printed on the outside edge of the coin. Was it done just to see what type of outcry if any the coin at first would elicit.. such as mine? Was it done to determine if there would be an outcry? Was there a purpose in it somewhere or was it a mistake? it will be interesting to see what comes next.

"IN GOD WE TRUST" first appeared on the 1864 two-cent coin, during the Civil War.
too bad you didnt actually have one minus the inscription, that error coin is worth quite a bit of money.... search ebay
God bless America? Why should He?? America is trying to erase God. But a day of reckoning is coming.
good one "b. mood" dork...
Actually the country was not founded as a Christian nation our First and second president ratified this in international document such as the treaty made with Tripoli in 1764-1765 which states "the government of the united states is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion;" Sure many of the founders were Christian but many were also deists. Deists have a different conception of god then Christians. There were also Jews a very small proportion, and gasp Pagan Indians. Our first amendment in the bill of rights establishes that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
By placing in god we trust on our money we effectively establish a monotheist religion. As an atheist I have just as much right to this country as you. I have just as much right to have my lack of faith respected and protected. I do not want to deny you your belief or force you to have mine. Why do you demand I conform to yours? This country was founded on a freedom of religious belief and you and people like you want to destroy that. You are unAmerican and as bad as any Soviet commissar. People like B Mood who threaten a day of reckoning are actually committing a hate crime, threatening those of us who do not believe.
Atheist make up a larger population of the country then Jews, combine us with all the other people who do not meet the monotheist paradox we make up almost 5% of the population. We are a significant minority and our rights deserve to be protected regardless of our faiths.
Great hub. Interesting how a coin hub became an outlet for athiest bs.
Greeting!
Yes, I agree, our nation was founded on IN GOD WE TRUST! Without Him we wouldn't have a nation. Proverbs 3:5 says to "TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL OUR HEART." We must pray for our nation.
Blessings!Linda CrossGammalinda
Please check out my hubpage I wrote called, "Trust in the Lord with all Your Heart".
B Mood captured the er-- sentiments of us all. Theres really no hate crime or anything here: its actually a question of a truly constructive and (if possible) human (consequently, reasonable) use of freedom.
I will never excpt a coin lacking Americas Emblem. IN GOD WE TRUST" May I suggest refuse a coin lacking our EMBLE.
BY ENGRAVING IN GOD WE TRUST ON THE RIM OF THE COIN (WHERE NO ONE WILL EVER NOTICE IT ORTHINK TO LOOK) SOMEONE IS DEFEATING THEIR PURPOSE.
FIRST GLANCE REVEALS NO INSCRIPTION - THAT IS ENOUGH FOR ME. IF IT HAS TO BE HIDDEN AROUND THE RIM - YOU CAN NOT HIDE "GOD"
OMG- Nobdoy can find work, we are fighting two different wars, but if they don't have "in god we trust" on the coins, we are in trouble.
Get a life people. Who cares about this distraction?
I was sad for a while that the new dollar coins dont have in god we trust on them but i was wondering if it does but if its hidden so i did some reserch and i found out that on the rim of the coin in small print it says "In God We Trust." And i was suprised because i thought it was gone for good
This country is based on the separation of church and state. My ancestors came here 300 years ago to escape religious persecution. They found solace in a country that protected all beliefs. I fully support the removal of this quote from all government property for the protection of those who believe as well as those who do not. It is unfair to push your religious beliefs on others and goes against everything this country holds dear, namely, freedom.
Our country is really not ours, it belongs to "The One" who created it. That is a most deadly misconception, that the created own anything. Our lives are but a vapor, and our time given only exist inside of ETERNITY. I agree personally, moving the inscription does not shake my faith in Him at all, nor does it remove HIS power, be very clear on that. Although it doesn't affect us personally our nation will suffer and all that deny Him until He returns. If you don't believe, what I am about to say won't matter, if the Bible is just a good book it won't matter, if there are many ways to God it won't matter. For me Jesus is the only way for Jews, christian, and everyone who will receive him. Here goes Psalms (9:17 " The wicked shall be turned into hell, AND EVERY NATION THAT FORGETS GOD".
Currently, our money in the United States is printed with the phrase 'In God We Trust.' Since FDR removed us from the gold standard in 1933, during the Great Depression, our faith in the value of these slips of cotton paper has been truly 'In God.' To those who wish to replace or remove 'God' from our currency, what would take its place?
I do not pose this question as simply "What words should be printed on the dollar?", but "What should we as Americans put our faith into to support the collectively perceived value of the dollar?"
On its surface it would almost seem as a contradiction that the thing we exchange (and by extension, its electronic counterpart) for goods and services everyday would be valued on the trust we, as a nation, put into a deity. However, it is something that we, as free people, seem to be exactly certain of what it is worth. Not only do we trade it, but we sometimes kill, steal and lie for, and even give away freely for things we assign more importance than ourselves.
Christians (the true kind) 'render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's.' They also render unto God that which is God's. A clever minister has even said that God will reward the man who puts trust in Him; and, the man who earns a dollar, ultimately puts his trust in God for the successful ability to work for it.
Ministers and community organizers alike should pay close attention. In my opinion, the functions you serve to society are mirrors of each other. 'In God We Trust' will remain on the dollar until a replacement is decided upon; one that can be determined by a majority of Americans.
For those that are offended by the phrase, I dare you to stop using cash. If you are so offended, it shouldn't be that hard with debit cards being as common as they are. The E-Dollar has nothing printed on it, and your debit card contains no mention of any deity. The only things you can't buy without 'In God We Trust' are illegal, anyway.
I for one believe that God is less interested in receiving our dollars, and more interested in what we do for, and with them. As long as there are people who place this kind of trust in God, and similarly in our currency, I will support keeping the phrase 'In God We Trust' on the dollar.
there is no god nor man in the moon
Go forth and prosper. But please, keep your religious beliefs to yourself. It's only a freaking coin, get over it!
First it was no more prayer in school. Then no more moment of silence. Then no more Merry Christmas. No more Nativity scenes on the greens of towns/cities across the country. I agree we should have freedom of choice. If you don't believe in God, then don't look or say anything. BUT, just as you have a right not to believe and make it a point of saying so, WE have a right to show who we are, whether it be Christian, Jewish, etc, we all have a right to show it. It only took 1 woman to do all this. Her and the blasted Civil Liberties Union..Thanks for nothing you two
THE NEW PENNY DOES NOT HAVE IN GOD WE TRUST
They should omit "In God We Trust" totally because not everyone believes in God but everyone uses money. That's called equality, believing in something doesn't always mean you are correct and everyone else should follow you. A lot of people died because of that, check your history!
An alternative would be to write down a small print below that "In God We Trust" that says -- "only applies if you believe in God if not please ignore" or something.
whether or not you believe in god is not the point. the
point is the government taking another piece of our history away. and for all of you that dont believe, remember this when you are taking your last breaths and lets see who you pray to.
All this will soon be taken care if anyone saw the move 2012? Believe or Not, when it's over, it's over. Since I turned to Jesus, not just started going to church, but started a RELATIONSHIP with HIM, that's when ALL non-believe will be thaken care.
The inscription "In God We Trust" were really removed from the outside edges of the "eight" US presidential $1 coins issued/released "in 2009 and 2010". (Four US presidential $1 coins are issued/released each year, from 2007 on.) Only those eight US presidential $1 coins issued/released in 2007 and 2008 have this inscription on (around) their outside edges. I just checked very carefully with a magnifying glass.
2007 -- George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison;
2008 -- James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren;
2009 -- William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, James K. Polk, Zachary Taylor;
2010 -- Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan, Abraham Lincoln.
What would these eight US presidents (the 9th to the 16th US Presidents) say if they were alive now?

"In God We Trust"-
Why do you think America is the greatest country in the world!? God has blessed it! No matter what you believe, there is one God and this country is "Under God" and therefore He has blessed it. Whether you people like it or not, it is what it is; has nothing to do with religion just God!!
"In God We Trust"
Should not be removed. But let's be real, it is eventually gonna have to be removed because everything changes. Everything has an end and this world is no exception. America has been, is, and will keep being (not for long though) the greatest nation in the world! But we can all see how that's all changing and little by little America will be like any other country; like Mexico (by the way they don't have "In God We Trust" eg."En Dios Confiamos" on their money). If you're reading this and in your ignorance you want "In God We Trust" removed, one day you'll be sorry, not now but one day. Hey I could have been one ignorant person like you guys but I'm glad I'm not; I understand the history of the U.S cause I have to agree with Javyknuts.
It will be removed by 2019 when the part of atheist in the country will grow beyond 25% due to natural disasters, climate change ,YouTube , Facebook and else. None of your stupid intimidation of destruction and hell will work anymore. People already now (still 3% of us population but rapidly growing) wakening for truly freedom incl. the freedom not to believe in all this nonsense. Would you use a coins where would be written In Koran We fully Trust ?Why not ? it is only a banknote or coin. Will you ignore and use credit card

I am a 72-year old man who is willing to go face-to-face with any person who wants to claim we are not a nation founded on God. I am not terribly bright, so I should be pretty easy prey--furthermore, I do not feel it is necessary to be politically correct. Bur fair warning--I do understand the true meaning of the first ammendment.

In God We Trust is printed on the edge of the coin. If you lay it on its side and spin it around you can see it. It does seem as though "Big Brother" is trying to hide it if they cant remove it altogether. If it doesnt have it printed on the edge, it can be worth a lot of money. Get a thought for u.
